Each year I take my Halloween yard display very seriously. While I spent many years in an apartment building in an area of town where I couldn’t keep items out overnight, I still put up a fun display on Halloween afternoon and packed it all up at 9:00 p.m. once trick-or-treaters waned. Over the years I amassed a large collection of sturdy tombstones, battery-operated lights, and props. Here are some images of my favorite set ups.
I like the traditional graveyard Halloween yard display style. When I first started my own display I had a bunch of foam tombstones, but they were quite a pain to stake into the ground each year. They also were constantly blowing down and breaking, so I slowly started to get more sturdy tombstones from places like Target and Home Depot. They were easy to set up and once placed, I didn’t have to worry about them for the evening.
As I didn’t have power access in my apartment building yard, I had to rely on battery-powered lights, fake candles, luminaries, and light-up tombstones to add illumination to the space.
To add to my graveyard scene, I added a variety of skeletons and lights. They all added to the atmosphere and helped my display to become photo op worthy.
No Halloween yard display is ever complete without a carved jack-o-lantern to watch over the space. My Honey-Bunny, roommate, and I have carved fun, unique creations every year.
