Spooky Date Night

The Halloween season is my busiest time of year, but no matter what, I still make time for my Honey-Bunny. He has perfected the art of planning a date night for a Halloween-loving partner. In this post, I will share some of our fun spooky date night ideas from the 20+ years he has made the Halloween season extra special for me.

Visit a Haunted House

Did you know that recreational fear (i.e. going to haunted houses) can bring people closer? The Gainesville Fear Garden (Gainesville, FL) has conducted multiple studies into the psychology of fear. Their findings indicate that people consistently feel closer to others after going through a haunt. In in-depth interviews with guests, two themes emerged:

  1. People talked that doing something unusual and “out of the ordinary” created shared anticipation and excitement. It was a sense of “we did this together”.
  2. The time together after the haunt was just as important as the haunt itself. Laughing, talking, and teasing each other about the experience helped cement the bond between participants.

Therefore, going to a haunt – and making sure to grab a snack or drink afterwards – is a great way to strengthen your relationship with that spooky someone. More and more haunts offer midways, food vendors, and entertainment to make it a full night out.

Watch a Horror Movie

Whether it be a night out at the movies to watch a new release or a cozy evening in on the couch, being together is what counts. I especially love to watch my favorite horror movies with my Honey-Bunny. Firstly, they always make me excited for the Halloween season. Secondly, I love to share them with my Honey-Bunny, who watches significantly fewer movies than me. And lastly, I know them by heart so it doesn’t matter if we end up snuggling and missing the end of the movie.

Either way, be sure to make some popcorn, have a drink handy, and hold each other close at the scary parts!

Have a Themed Halloween Dinner

There is nothing more endearing than coming home from a long day at work to find that my Honey-Bunny has planned a homemade meal and went all out to create a spooky atmosphere. A few LED candles, Halloween plates, and just the right decor make a night in just as exciting as a trip to a fancy restaurant.

Need an idea for a meal? Try my Vampire-Repelling Shrimp Scampi.

Share Something Pumpkin Spice

Who says that dates have to be a full sit-down meal? With all the different pumpkin spice and harvest apple specialty drinks out at every coffee house in the U.S., sometimes instead of a full dinner we opt for pumpkin spice drinks and dessert at a local cafe. It is nice to just sit and talk while indulging in a seasonal sweet.

Go to a Pumpkin Patch & Carve Pumpkins

To make a full day of a date, try going to a pumpkin patch to pick out your pumpkins and then coming home to carve them. Nothing gets me into a Halloween mood more than roaming aisles and aisles of orange pumpkins. Many patches also have hot apple cedar, donuts, and more for a nice meal. Then go home, put on a Vintage Halloween playlist, and carve. For an extra treat – make some pumpkin seeds to enjoy together.

These are just a small sample of all the great ways during Fall you can make special memories with your spooky someone. Get out there and have fun with all the Halloween season has to offer!
